   Actually, this is one of the only diets which were studies in a medical research. A study by Johns Hopkins found that the diet induces weight loss in both men and women. Around 60 lbs was the average weight loss.

   This kind of analysis is a step in the right direction. However, it still suffers from conceptually flawed "rearview mirror" valuation methods. The theoretical value of a stock is just the present value of future earnings/dividends discounted for risk. Of course, nobody knows what future earnings will be, so all we have is analysts consensus (and we all know how off those can be).

   In any case, the forward-looking PE would be a better approximation. Also, the growth rate should be the long-term (5 years) future growth rate instead of a 1-quarter back-looking growth rate. When growth rates are beyond 50% (or below 10%), the approximation to DCF by the PEG model breaks down (i.e. PEG=1 undervalues hyper-growth stocks as well as mature slow-growth stocks). Apple's past 5-years average growth is about 70%. 25-30% for the next 5 years is reasonable.

   Oh and Apple does have $49 per share in cash. It shouldn't be hard to find the other stock's equivalent cash level, including long-term investments. Capital IQ can kma.
